Training & development
Knox leads the way
To provide outstanding service and clinical care to our residents, Knox Home invests substantially in team and individual development. Not only, are our staff members trained across general areas of clinical and non-clinical education such as InterRAI, palliative care, infection prevention and control, wound management, CPR and First Aid, assessment and management of pain, Tangiihanga, culturally safe care and physiotherapist education, we also use cross-team collaborative training projects welcoming residents and families’ input, to nurture the Eden Alternative philosophy which promotes a high-quality and meaningful life for our residents.
Knox is a recognised training centre and has been acknowledged by the New Zealand Aged Care Association with a Training and Development Award. This is awarded in recognition of training and staff development innovations that improve education, well-being, safety and staff satisfaction. The team also particpates in national Quality Awards.
Ahead with the Eden Alternative
Since adopting the Eden Alternative in 2009, more than 250 team members have trained as Eden Associates through three-day on-site training provided by Eden in OZ&NZ. The CEO participates as a trainer at Knox and at external training courses.
We became the first home in Australasia to achieve an Eden International Award. In 2012, Knox Home won the Eden Alternative Seedling Award announced at the 6th Eden Alternative International Conference in Grand Rapids, USA recognising a level of commitment and progressiveness that challenges others to grow. This award not only engenders great pride for the Knox Home team but also underscored that we have been working very positively in the right direction. Knox Home subsequently achieved full Eden Alternative registration in February 2014 - the first in New Zealand.
Eden Alternative sessions continue for residents, family and the Knox Home team. This shared experience challenges conventional thinking regarding organisational hierarchies and unites the team’s attention on ensuring that residents remain central to all that happens at Knox Home.
